Volunteer Reward & Recognition
We have searched the Internet high and low for ideas - both inexpensive and expensive to celebrate your volunteer staffs. I hope that some of the items generate some creative juices in your programs within your non-profit organizations. Listed below is a list of several outstanding suggestions that we throught were "tops" in celebrating your wonderful volunteers. Here are four suggestions that we have come across and thought that you would enjoy them too. Here we go:
Oscar Night
You could present each of your
volunteers during your "Oscar Night" for their hard work
with a votive candle that is turned upside down with a pom pom for
the head and googly eyes. Then you could use pipecleaners for arms.
These are a HUGE hit and very inexpensive to create for your great volunteers!
Above and Beyond the Call
of Duty
Each year, I'm sure, you probably
celebrate service awards for each of your volunteers. We recently
came across this idea from Pierce County, WA, where the United Way
gives out "Green Feather Awards" to individuals who
volunteer over 100 hours a year. Several of the regular volunteers
received a certificate (complete with the number of hours they
volunteers) and a nice lapel pin. We thought this was a great idea
for your regular volunteers. Contact your local United Way, local
parks administration, community hospitals, city offices, Rotary,
Lions, Kiwanis, etc. to find out if such an award is available in
your community. It even applies to volunteer interns (who often rack
up hundreds of hours over several months) and for college students,
who can list the community award on their resumes!
Snowflakes
This works great for organizations
where there are large numbers of volunteers who come to a single
location. Using a four-inch white paper doilles, we put the name of
each volunteer on their own "Snowflake" and hung them from
the ceiling of the volunteer lounge. We added a poster that said
"Just as every snowflake can add up to a blizzard, so every
volunteer's contribution adds up to a storm of activity here. Thank
you for your dedication!" This created a lot of fun as each
volunteer looked for their snowflake and also impressed staff and
visitors with the extent of volunteer involvement at our hospital.
You could even adapt this for other seasons of the year. Also very
inexpensive to complete and a HUGE hit!
Hawaiian Lei Rotating
Award Program
A not-for-profit volunteer
organization, which has very limited funding available for a
recognition program, and many of them usually have loads of
volunteers who are so deserving of recognition for their hours and
hours of service. At each of our meetings (we meet monthly), we pass
around an award that is an inexpensive Hawaiian lei. It is an
inexpensive way for individuals who work as a group to recognize
eachother. For example, one month it is "Jane Doe Award"
where Jane Doe decides whom she would like to recognize. The
following month it becomes the award granted by the last recipient.
It is a fun way to build a team and let others help recognize each other.
We have searched the Internet for the best available collection of various award certificates on-line. We are constantly searching for new award certificates to offer you and your organization.
